Russian Federation set to import North Korean apples

A Russian state-operated news outlet has disclosed an initial accord with North Korea for the procurement of apples, aiming to offset an anticipated deficit in Russia's apple production this year. The specifics regarding the quantity and schedule of these imports remain undisclosed.

The development is part of broader efforts to fortify relations between Moscow and Pyongyang. Notably, a summit was convened between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in June, marking Putin's first visit to North Korea in 24 years. During this summit, a treaty aimed at enhancing bilateral military cooperation was signed.

This agreement comes as Russia revises its apple production forecast for the current year to 1.5 million tons, a reduction from the previously estimated 1.8 million tons, attributed to adverse weather conditions. The Russian government has expressed intentions to secure additional apple supplies through alliances with friendly nations.
