Russia doubles apple imports in June 2024

In June 2024, Russia saw a significant increase in apple imports, nearly doubling the volume compared to June 2023. According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the country imported 42,000 tons of apples, marking a 10% rise from May 2024's 38,000 tons and an 80% increase than imported in June 2023.

The primary suppliers of apples to Russia include Turkey, South Africa, Serbia, China, and Uzbekistan. Data from the Federal State Information System "Argus-Phyto" revealed that in June 2024, Russia imported 9,700 tons of apples from Turkey, 7,200 tons from South Africa, 6,400 tons from Serbia, 4,200 tons from China, and 1,700 tons from Uzbekistan.

Earlier, the Russian Minister of Agriculture, Oksana Lut, announced that the Ministry of Agriculture had revised its 2024 apple harvest forecast from 1.8 million tons down to 1.5 million tons due to frost damage. The Ministry is currently working with friendly countries to secure additional apple supplies to compensate for the expected shortfall.
