Rather than coming up with customized answers for every problem, we can offer flexible ones from a standard solution. From this standpoint, we developed the Xcalibur optical sorter. We can adapt this basic platform to each customer's capacity and specific needs, and it's available in different widths," says Antoine van Kasteren of OptiServe. We can also calculate the payback period pretty precisely along with the client."
Integration new camara in Exalubur 2.0
During the pandemic, orders were down, and they could not visit customers; Antoine, thus, decided to use that time to improve their sorting solution, the Xcalibur. The result? The Xcalibur frame 2.0. This is a further development of OptiServe's original model, which has been on the market since 2004. This Dutch company does not focus on an entire range of machines but offers a standard model that clients can tweak to meet their demands. This versatile platform can be used for various products like chips, nuts, and non-food items.
Improvements in many areas
The Xcalibur 2.0 was updated mechanically and technologically. Mechanical improvements include air conditioning, discharge valves, and detection belts. The new version uses 3CCD cameras and LED lighting, facilitating sorting while reducing energy consumption. The machine's software is continuously improved based on in-house research and customer feedback, with customers always having access to the software's latest version.
"A pickle isn't just a pickle"
An unusual example of product development is pickle grading. These come in different shapes and are often sorted manually; OptiServe has developed an algorithm that automates pickle grading. Despite the Xcalibur being pricier than standard machines, it saves on labor and improves efficiency, so the investment pays off. The company can work with clients to calculate the number of FTEs saved and the return on investment.
Deformed sorted pickles
Given labor shortages and the automation trend, OptiServe offers solutions such as the Xcalibur and the Glide, a machine that tops and tails unsorted French fries. These machines are designed to operate efficiently and reliably, often with high yields and lower costs than those of competitors. OptiServe aims for a future where further innovations, like integrating infrared cameras and AI software, will keep improving their machines' longevity and functionality. The Xcalibur 2.0 will be presented at Interpom in late November, where visitors can see the machine in action and learn more about OptiServe's benefits and services.
