Stéphane Djédji, CEO of Bethlehem Commodities

"Côte d'Ivoire exported 32,000 tons of mangoes to Europe this year"

The Ivorian mango campaign was a success this year, thanks to good weather conditions and strong European demand, according to Stéphane Djédji, CEO of Bethlehem Commodities.

The producer says, "For the KENT variety, the most popular with our customers in Europe, the campaign has been excellent. Production conditions were optimal, with a dense and regular rainfall, a hot weather and good sizes. We were able to achieve a good production at national level (all varieties combined), reaching 180 thousand tonnes this year."

Djédji continues: "our customers in Europe were very pleased with the size and quality. Côte d'Ivoire exported 32 thousand tons of mangoes to Europe this year. This is a good figure, given the large supply of mangoes between April and July, from West African and Asian countries."

The Ivorian mango season has been cut short, however, due to heavy rainfall, which brings an intensification of fruit flies from July onwards, says the grower.

In terms of prices, "Ivorian mangoes received prices similar to those of the previous season, around 200F/kg," says Djédji. "Despite the fact that prices have not risen, they are higher than those in Mali or Senegal."
