Iran's potato exports hit $52 million in first five months

The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) has disclosed that Iran's potato exports attained a value of $52 million within the initial five months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20-August 21). During this timeframe, potatoes emerged as the fifth most exported agricultural commodity.

IRICA's data also highlights a 33 percent enhancement in the value of Iran's agricultural product exports in comparison to the corresponding period last year. Specifically, 2.657 million tons of agricultural goods, valued at $1.453 billion, were exported, marking a 22 percent increase in weight year on year.

Furthermore, in the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 20-July 21), around 2.226 million tons of agricultural products, worth approximately $1.18 billion, were exported, reflecting a 32 percent surge in value year on year. The weight of these exports also saw a 22 percent increment.

Ruhollah Latifi, the spokesman for the International Relations and Trade Development Committee of Iran's House of Industry, Mining, and Trade, noted a 22.5 percent rise in the value of Iran's exports of agricultural and foodstuff products in the preceding Iranian calendar year. Iranian producers succeeded in exporting about $6.3 billion worth of these products.

Agro-food products constituted 12.8 percent of Iran's total non-oil exports last year, with Iraq being the leading importer of Iran's agro-food products, purchasing items worth $1.986 billion. This made Iraq responsible for 31.5 percent of Iran's total food and agricultural product exports. The United Arab Emirates and Russia were also significant importers, with imports valued at $751 million and $521.5 million, respectively.

The overall value of Iran's foreign trade, including oil and technical engineering services, amounted to $153.17.8 billion in the last Iranian calendar year.
