Vegetable and fruit prices rise in Bengaluru due to Ganesha festival

In Bengaluru, the anticipation of the Gowri-Ganesha festival has triggered a rise in the prices of vegetables, flowers, and fruits. The festival, scheduled for September 6 and 7, has seen a notable increase in the cost of these commodities. Specifically, vegetables such as brinjal and capsicum have experienced a 50% price surge, with carrots and potatoes also becoming more expensive. For instance, the price of brinjal reached ₹40-₹60 per kg, and capsicum was priced at ₹55-₹60 per kg, whereas carrots and potatoes were available for ₹60-₹80 per kg and ₹40-₹50 per kg respectively.

The fruit sector was not exempt from these trends, with Yelakki bananas, oranges, and apples seeing price increases. Bananas were sold at ₹160 per kg, oranges at ₹200 per kg, and apples ranged between ₹150-200 per kg. Akram Pasha, a long-standing fruit vendor in K.R Market, remarked, "The price of apples is lower now because it is the season. The prices used to range from ₹200-₹250 per kg earlier but now they are priced at ₹150 per kg."
