Moldova sees 125% increase in table grape exports to the EU in 2024

In the first eight months of 2024, Moldova reported a 125% increase in table grape exports to the European Union compared to the same period in 2023. Dumitru Alaiba, Deputy Prime Minister and Economic Development Minister, disclosed these statistics, highlighting the growth in grape exports to key EU countries including Romania, Poland, Hungary, Latvia, and Croatia. The exported volume of table grapes to the EU surged from 5,875 tons in January-August 2023 to 13,248 tons in the corresponding months of 2024, generating revenue of 337 million lei for Moldova.

Alaiba attributed this growth to the quality of produce from Moldovan producers and the confidence placed in them by the EU market. He noted that table grapes are among the seven agricultural products Moldova exports to the EU without import duties, and these exports have exceeded the set quotas by about 62%. He emphasized the potential for even greater success as Moldova moves closer to EU membership. The EU stands as Moldova's primary investor and largest market, with over 65% of Moldovan exports directed to the EU and more than 81% of foreign direct investments in Moldova originating from EU countries.
