Xi visits modern apple production base in Tianshui

During an inspection of Tianshui City in Gansu Province, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited an apple production base to understand the advancements in the modern fruit industry. This visit was part of his broader inspection which included Baoji City in Shaanxi Province and Tianshui in Gansu from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday morning.

The apple production base, located in the Maiji District, was established in 2005 and extends across three townships and 25 villages, covering 10,000 hectares. This base is highlighted as a model for modern agriculture, combining fruit production, technological advancements, tourism, and educational activities. Through collaborations with leading companies and distributors, the base has improved its marketing systems and adopted various marketing strategies to ensure both the growth and sale of apples in the market.

In 2023, the base reported an apple production of 220,000 tons, valued at approximately 600 million yuan (84.27 million U.S. dollars). The success of the apple industry in the region has significantly contributed to the local economy, with the average per capita net income from fruit growing exceeding 8,000 yuan (1,123 U.S. dollars), benefiting 9,163 households and 41,300 individuals.
