Uvasdoce Fresh: "We expect a gap in white grape production in early November"

"The shortage of grapes since the beginning of September makes it necessary to import sooner"

The Spanish table grape season is already in its third and final stretch. According to Uvasdoce, since supply was lower than expected in September (due to premature ripening) and the sector expects a gap in production in early November, there will be an advance and increase in imports.

"We have encountered several challenges throughout this campaign, including an increase in producers, as we went from 8 to 12 farms, and an increase of 30 hectares compared to the previous campaign, which has meant a 35% increase in volume," Uvasdoce stated. "In addition, the weather has caused the grapes to ripen early, which has caused a shortage of grapes since the first weeks of September. This has made it necessary to advance imports."

"The market for table grapes has continued to grow. However, in Spain in particular, table grapes have faced strong competition from other fruits, such as cherries and watermelons, which has affected sales of the early grapes. In September, interest in grapes has increased considerably," they added.

"At the European level, France, Italy, and Portugal expect a normal end to the season, and this situation has contributed to an acceleration in production. Since the harvests of various varieties started approximately three weeks earlier than usual, we expect there will be a gap in the white grape market at the beginning of November, which will lead to an increase in imports," the company stated.

Uvasdoce will once again showcase its products at Fruit Attraction (stand 8C04) in Madrid from October 8 to 10, where it will highlight its UvaXperience and present its completely revamped New Year's Eve catalog.
