Single-materials represent a viable solution in fruit and vegetable packaging, as they combine efficiency, convenience and environmental friendliness. With this in mind, "P-Pack" - produced by REV Packaging Solutions' "Puma packaging machines for thermosealed nets" - is the result of many years of experience in the field of thermosealing.
Fabrizio Fiumana
REV President Fabrizio Fiumana explains that "the solution, which we have improved and optimized over time, is made entirely of PE, composed of thermosealed tubular netting with a ribbon that acts as a handle making the net practical and convenient, as well as a flag or weld-to-weld label with a customizable shape and size.
P-Pack is made with 50% less plastic than similar solutions found on the market. "The key concept is to reduce. It is not enough for packaging to be made of a single-material, it needs to be truly sustainable and lightweight," continues Fiumana. "The label, also made of polyethylene, is applied directly to the net. In addition, Puma is equipped with a thermal transfer printer capable of imprinting directly onto the label. In this way, we have eliminated a layer of material that would make the packaging no longer 100% recyclable. The band that serves as a handle is also just the right width."
In the graph below, you can see a comparison between the weight of a 500g P-Pack and the main thermosealed nets (for dried fruit, citrus fruits, onions, potatoes, etc.) currently on the market.
"The combination of these characteristics allows us to save a huge amount of material: the solution is cheaper for both packers and consumers and, above all, it is more environmentally friendly. The numbers speak for themselves."
