Hà Nội's OCOP programme fosters sustainability in agriculture

Since its initiation in 2018, the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) initiative in Hà Nội has addressed output challenges for agricultural products, enhancing sustainability and innovation. This programme has been instrumental for local farmers and communities in securing sustainable markets and improving product quality, particularly in areas like Tráng Việt Commune, Mê Linh District. The introduction of OCOP has led to more stable market access and increased product value, with examples like Đông Cao Cooperative, which has successfully certified 18 products under the programme, and Tiên Dương Organic Agricultural Cooperative, focusing on organic vegetables and medicinal herbs.

Hà Nội now boasts over 2,700 OCOP-certified products, adhering to stringent quality and safety standards, thereby facilitating production expansion and revenue increase for farmers and cooperatives. The demand for these products in a city with nearly 12 million residents is robust, offering a vast potential for local consumption. OCOP products are characterized by their local essence, promoting the establishment of specialized farming areas that meet international standards such as VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and HACCP.

The city is committed to enhancing the market presence of OCOP products through promotional efforts, policy support, and encouraging the adoption of advanced technologies to boost productivity and quality. Efforts are also underway to assist stakeholders in trade promotion and market development, aiming for the sustainable growth of OCOP products both domestically and internationally. Nguyễn Văn Chí, Deputy Head of the Coordination Office of the New-Style Rural Development Programme in Hà Nội, highlighted the programme's role in unlocking agricultural potential and fostering a shift in rural economic development, ultimately improving the lives of the local population.
