Alessandro Zampagna: "Our goal is to reach 2000 hectares in a few years"

Dorì kiwi, commercialisation set to launch in ten days

The Dorì kiwi is an early fruit, and this year the weather has brought this characteristic to the fore. "For this reason, we plan to start selling it between the first and second week of October," says Alessandro Zampagna, Managing Director of Dorì International and General Manager of the Origine Group, who spoke in Ricadi (Calabria, Italy) on 17 and 18 September during the sixth edition of the Dorì Day, the first organised by Dorì International (the joint venture between the Origine Group and the publishers Innovation Fruit and Los Andes Fruit, created with the aim of developing the production and marketing of Dorì).

"We have set ourselves a number of objectives for the coming years. These include increasing the number of hectares under cultivation from 900 to around 2000, maintaining the high level of quality demanded by the market, increasing the visibility and awareness of the brand and improving the Dorì global network."

The conference, held on 17 September, was attended by almost 200 producers, technicians and managers, with an important presence of partners from France, Spain, Portugal and Australia, and with the participation of the Councillor for Agriculture of the Region of Calabria, Gianluca Gallo.

The event, coordinated and transmitted by Agrilinea di Sauro Angelini, was greeted by Giampaolo Dal Pane, President of Dorì International, who, together with Andrea Ravaioli and Giorgio Miclet, lecturers at the University of Bologna and the University of Udine respectively, traced the history of this variety, which now covers more than 900 hectares worldwide.

This was followed by presentations from Jamie Craig, Director of Dorì Australia, who showed the investments made in his country. There was also a presentation from Fabio Marocchi, a technician who spoke about the phytosanitary problems of kiwifruit, and from Tommaso Donati of Unitec.

On 18 September, visits were made to the Dorì farms in Calabria, where this year's results were again extremely positive, also thanks to the reduced need for cold weather for this variety.
