After the stone fruit and melon/watermelon seasons, which have been more variable in terms of prices and very dependent on temperatures, the table grape season has been remarkable for its stability, with a demand that has allowed prices to stay at a good level, practically constant, since the beginning of the season.
"As every year, we start the season in July with the white varieties, specifically the Sugraone Superior, which is the most demanded in the Central European and Scandinavian markets where we operate," say Paula and Tonyi, from Greenfood Ibérica. "However, we also work with the red ITUM varieties throughout the season, as well as black varieties, including the Autumn Royal, which is also highly demanded by Nordic consumers."
"All of them are marketed under our Daily Greens brand in 10 x 500 gram tubs and in recycled and recyclable paper bags, in line with the sustainable philosophy of all Daily Greens products. The fruit and vegetables sold under this Greenfood Ibérica brand are grown, packed and shipped to consumers with a focus on sustainability. They also have the most important quality and food safety certificates, including BRC and IFS," they say.
"It is worth noting that in the Nordic market, which is the main market for our grapes, white grapes are, by far, the most demanded. Color is a much more important factor than it seems. This year, some white varieties have had a bit of a yellow tinge, and although they were table grapes with a superior taste quality, it has not been easy to market them. Thus, we are going to be taking this factor into account in the coming years."
"Despite this, we have still had a very stable season in which we have so far matched last year's volumes, and we hope that the situation won't change in the weeks that remain before the end of our export campaign."
"We already knew at the beginning of the season that Peru would finish its table grape season early, so in general, we have not had any major problems with imports, which is what sometimes makes it difficult for us to start the season with the right price."
"As with the stone fruit, melon and watermelon campaigns, we are very satisfied with the results we have been achieving with the table grapes and with the success of all Daily Greens products among consumers."
