"Kiwifruit harvest season opens with increased market demand for high-end, single-packaged products"

This year, the kiwifruit picking season in some areas of Sichuan started a bit earlier due to high temperatures. Despite this, rainy weather has led to a more bountiful fruit yield, with an expected increase of about 10% in kiwifruit production compared to last year. Currently, the market is dominated by the Hongyang red-hearted kiwifruit, with several varieties from Shaanxi, such as Cuixiang and Hongyangzi, anticipated to hit the market from September to November.

During the peak kiwifruit harvest and sales season, SPM Biosciences (Beijing), a company specializing in postharvest preservation of fruits and vegetables, showcased their retail preservative product, ANGEL FRESH, at the Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong in early September.

Debby, the head of sales explained that ANGEL FRESH's preservation products utilize 1-MCP technology to significantly extend the storage life of fruit, mitigating issues like water loss, softening, and taste degradation due to transportation delays. "For kiwifruit, those treated with our preservative technology can be stored from autumn through to May or June of the following year. This is particularly beneficial for exported kiwifruit, as ANGEL FRESH can greatly prolong shelf life during shipping, ensuring the fruit remains fresh upon reaching customers. This technology acts as a form of 'insurance' for the storage and transport of fruits and vegetables, providing flexibility in the face of transportation emergencies or delays," she said.

Moreover, Debby highlighted that as high-end kiwifruit increasingly moves towards single, small package sales, ANGEL FRESH has adapted to meet this market demand by offering a range of product specifications. These include small packages suitable for various sizes, designed for use at multiple stages of postharvest storage and transportation. "This product is cost-effective, easy to use, and achieves preservation simply by placing small sachets or cards inside the packaging box," Debby added.

As a company focusing on postharvest preservation of fruits and vegetables, SPM Biosciences (Beijing), with over a decade of experience in the Chinese market, boasts a comprehensive R&D, analysis, and service team. The company actively engages in the Chinese market and has acquired sales qualifications in Argentina and Dominica, with ongoing efforts to secure new sales agents worldwide.

SPM Biosciences (Beijing) reported overall satisfaction with their participation in the Asia Fruit Logistica. Despite weather-related adjustments to the exhibition's hours on the third day, which somewhat affected visitor numbers, Debby remarked, "We hosted over 100 visitors and had a packed meeting schedule. We are pleased with the outcome."
