This series gives the average wholesale prices of selected home-grown horticultural produce in England and Wales. These are averages of the most usual prices charged by wholesalers for selected home-grown fruit, vegetables, and cut flowers at the wholesale markets in Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester, and a London Market (New Spitalfields or Western International). This publication is updated weekly.
The latest report from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) provides an update on the national average wholesale prices for a variety of home-grown fruits and vegetables in the UK for week 39.
Notable fluctuations include a 14% increase in the price of early-season apples and an 18% increase for red capsicums, indicating a positive trend for these commodities. Conversely, plums (all other varieties) saw a significant decrease of 48%, and blackberries experienced a 19% drop, highlighting variances in market demand or supply. Other commodities such as Bramley's seedling apples, Cox's orange group apples, and Conference pears also witnessed price adjustments, reflecting the dynamic nature of the horticultural market.
