Nick Bakelaar, Spot:

"Egyptian sweet potatoes stabilized in volume, supply and price"

The sweet potato season in Egypt is currently in full swing. "It got off to a turbulent start with a crowded market and plummeting prices as we see yearly, but the situation has stabilized in volume, supply, and price. This is earlier than we saw last year," says Spot's Nick Bakelaar. "The stable supply from Egypt with good quality sweet potatoes, both conventional and organic is a big plus at the moment. We can maintain this supply through March. All sizes are available from S to XL."

"In November, we also expect our first containers of sweet potatoes from America. The forecast for the season with American sweet potatoes is that it will be similar to 2024. "Hurricane Helene, which caused devastation mainly in the western part of North Carolina, is not expected to pose any problems for the areas where the growers are located, as it currently appears."

"We do expect that there will be more demand for sweet potatoes in those regions and availability for export will be the biggest challenge next season. Also, the port strike at the port in America is causing delays that may have an impact later this year."

"Furthermore, the Portuguese season has also started, and we are currently harvesting. That being said, there is already a limited availability of sweet potatoes on the market. At the moment, we also have purple and white-fleshed sweet potatoes available from Portugal, which is a great addition to our range and offers a versatile selection for our customers. With the holidays approaching, these colors will certainly make a beautiful decoration on your plate," concludes Nick.
