New Zealand's nitrogen efficiency booster gains traction in China

A New Zealand innovation, the N-Boost, is gaining traction in China, aimed at enhancing potato crop yields. This nitrogen efficiency booster, developed and manufactured in New Zealand, has seen a surge in demand among Chinese crop farmers, according to Donaghys general manager of crop protection and export, Tim O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan, alongside Donaghys CEO Jarred Marfell, visited resellers and growers in Inner Mongolia and Beijing, observing N-Boost's application on large scale potato crops and in the cultivation of Chinese medicinal herbs.

During their visit, they noted that Chinese farmers utilize N-Boost to improve nitrogen utilization efficiency, with Adama, Donaghys' partner in the market, conducting various farm trials showcasing positive outcomes. "Adama is one of our largest customers for N-Boost, which is a patented formulation developed to increase nitrogen uptake from plants. They are very excited about the product's potential to support more sustainable farm practices in China," stated O'Sullivan. Beyond China, N-Boost has found applications in North America and is experiencing growing sales in South Africa, with its use in the USA highlighted by Randy Dowdy's record soybean yield in 2019.

Within New Zealand, dairy farmers are the primary users of N-Boost, incorporating it into their fertiliser programmes to enhance production while managing urea application rates. This strategy supports cost-effective dairy production and aligns with environmental regulations.
