Morocco expects to harvest more than 90,000 tons of avocados this season

Morocco's avocado production farms have started hiring seasonal workers for this season's harvest, which is expected to exceed 90,000 tons, with the possibility of exporting more than 80,000 tons. The harvest focuses on three avocado varieties: Fuerte, Bacon, and Zitano, all of which are smooth. However, the sector is planning to introduce the rough Hass variety in the future. The harvest season starts at the end of September and can last until the end of December.

Professionals in the sector are highlighting the quality and quantity of the harvest in this first season. In addition, they stress that the avocado harvest creates direct and indirect employment opportunities, which mainly benefit day laborers in the region between Moulay Bousselham and Larache. According to HessPress, they also highlighted that growing avocado consumes less water than other crops.
