China's pitahaya imports have decreased by 39.73% in value up to August, totaling $ 148.9 million. According to Giovanny Decker, a trade advisor for Ecuador, based on data from China's General Administration of Customs, the import volume decreased to 163,000 tons, i.e. 37.14% or 96,000 tons less than in the same period of the previous year.
Only Vietnam and Ecuador are supplying pitahaya to the Chinese market this year, Decker stated. Vietnam dominates the market with shipments worth $147.6 million, accounting for 99.18% of the total. Ecuador accounts for the remaining 0.82% of the share with $1.2 million. The pitahaya was purchased by companies in 17 Chinese provinces, a decrease compared to last year's 19 provinces.
The five most important provinces in terms of pitahaya imports, which together account for 70.6% of all purchases, are Guandong with $ 41.4 million, Shanghai with $ 29.1 million, Guangxi Zhuang with $ 13.0 million, Fuijan with $ 12.4 million, and Yunnan with $ 9.2 million.
