Thailand's fruit season ends on a high

As the 2024 fruit season in Thailand comes to a close, prices for various fruits such as durian, mangosteen, rambutan, and mango have surged, benefiting farmers significantly. Minister of Commerce Pichai Naripthaphan has directed the Department of Internal Trade to begin preparations for the 2025 fruit season.

Pichai highlighted the success of the 2024 fruit management plan, which implemented six key measures and 25 initiatives that contributed to the rise in prices. These efforts included expanding domestic markets, promoting exports to new regions, and encouraging value-added processing. As a result, farmers have experienced increased incomes this season.

Looking ahead, the new measures for the 2025 season will focus on enhancing production and processing, expanding both domestic and international markets, improving trade efficiency, and implementing necessary legal frameworks. Once finalized, these strategies will be discussed with relevant stakeholders to ensure proactive support for the upcoming season.

In terms of exports, Thailand has shipped 1.4 million tonnes of fresh fruit during the first eight months of 2024, valued at approximately $4.2 billion. China continues to be the largest market, with growing imports, while South Korea, Hong Kong, and Malaysia are also emerging as significant markets for Thai fresh fruit.
