A labor strike initiated by cargo transport workers at Chittagong, Bangladesh's busiest and largest seaport, has led to operational disruptions starting Oct. 22. The workers' demands include the provision of identity cards by employers. Scheduled to conclude by 06:00 on Oct. 23, the strike has halted cargo movements to and from all 20 inland container depots linked with the port.
The continuation of the strike could lead to significant shipping delays, potentially impacting supply chains in the near future. Additionally, strike supporters might organize protests at various locations within the port area. While confrontations are not anticipated, there is a possibility of clashes if police attempt to disperse protesters by force.
