The Ministry of Economy of Armenia has observed a transition in the nation's potato trade, with the country now exporting potatoes, a shift from its previous status as an importer. Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan highlighted that Armenia has exported 2,500 tons of potatoes in the initial nine months of this year, in contrast to last year's absence of exports. On the import front, there's a notable decrease from 7,500 tons last year to just 500 tons this year, with the imports being exclusively for seed material.
An early snowfall in the Gegharkunik region, a key potato-producing area, has posed challenges for farmers still in the midst of harvest. In response, Minister Papoyan mentioned, "We responded quickly to the situation and held a working meeting with the governor. To speed up the harvesting process, the ministry and the regional administration will provide farmers with the necessary equipment as long as weather conditions allow."
