Positive Polish cauliflower season is coming to a close

The Polish cauliflower season about to reach its conclusion. According to Kornelia Lewikowska, purchasing manager for Polish vegetable exporter Green Best, it's been a positive year: "This year, the cauliflower season was very successful for us. Although we expected larger quantities of cauliflower than were available, the demand for the produce was at a very high level. Overall, we managed to export more cauliflower than we did in the previous years."

Despite increased prices for the cauliflowers, Lewikowska states that the export sales have not suffered at all. "Cauliflower prices were higher this year than they were in the year before, but fortunately the prices were not high enough to slow down our sales. As always, the weather determines how much cauliflower we have available. We sold most of our cauliflower to the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but France was also a solid market."

As the cauliflower has been successful, chances are acreage in Poland will increase again, as it has already done recently, Lewikowska explains: "Cauliflower cultivation in Poland is doing well. Thanks to the large sale of cauliflower, farmers are planting more from year to year. When it comes to logistics, there is a lack of transport with two drivers for the same truck, so they can alternate. This is mostly due to a shortage of drivers in general, which in turn can make it difficult to find transport from one day to the next."

And with that, the season of Polish cauliflower will soon come to a close, Lewikowska says. "At this point in the year, we are actually still exporting the final batches of cauliflowers, but these are no longer in large quantities. All in all, the successful season is slowly coming to an end."
