The South American grape export season is about to commence, with the Peruvian Association of Table Grape Producers and Exporters forecasting a strong year. In its latest report, the Association anticipates Peru will export 78.7 million boxes (8.2 kg/box) of table grapes for the 2024/25 season, marking a 25.4% increase over last year. China remains a key market for Peruvian grapes, and recent declines in shipping costs are expected to boost exports further.
As the season begins, SPM Biosciences (Beijing), a post-harvest preservation service provider for fresh produce, showcased its grape preservative, Angel Fresh, at the Fruit Attraction exhibition held in Madrid, Spain. The product aims to extend the freshness of grapes during storage and shipping.
"Angel Fresh's active ingredient, 1-MCP, is a powerful ethylene inhibitor that preserves grape stem color and reduces spoilage, effectively prolonging shelf life. Our sachets are easy to use by putting in the grape packaging, available in various sizes, and effective in all the links during storage and transportation. We can also customize sachets so they are suitable for a range of packaging types," explained Debby, SPM's representative. "We recommend combining the 1-MCP sachets with sulfur dioxide pads for optimal freshness."
Debby also noted an increase in demand for preservation solutions in domestic grape storage and shipping. "The grape season for regions such as the southern hemisphere begins in mid-to-late October. Our preservatives offer significant benefits for exporters, keeping grapes fresh through extended sea journeys and providing a safeguard during delays or transit issues."
SPM Biosciences (Beijing), with over a decade of experience in China's post-harvest market, maintains a dedicated R&D, analysis, and service team. The company is also expanding internationally, holding sales licenses in Argentina and the Dominican Republic and seeking new global partnerships.
This marks SPM Biosciences' fifth appearance at Fruit Attraction. "This year, we connected with over 100 visitors, including grape exporters from South America and Africa, and provided samples to test our preservation products. We're pleased with the reception and plan to continue participating in future exhibitions," shared Debby.
