Between January and September 2024, Peru exported 34,931 tons of ginger worth $77.6 million. This is 37% less volume and 6% less value compared to previous periods. This decrease in exports is due to the fall in ginger production attributed to adverse weather conditions and the presence of the Ralstonia bacteria.
In September 2024, Peru exported 4,433 tons of ginger worth $9.26 million. This is 39% less volume and 36% less value compared to the same month last year. The average price of Peruvian ginger in September stood at $2.09 per kilogram, i.e. 5% higher than the $1.99 per kilogram price recorded in the same month of 2023.
In September of this year, the US was the main destination with 2,054 tons (49% of the total) worth $4.6 million and an average price of $2.22 per kilogram. It was followed by the Netherlands with 1,226 tons (27% of the total) worth $2.5 million and an average price of $2.01 per kilogram. Spain ranked third with 262 tons ( 6% of the total) worth $553,000 and an average price of $2.11 per kilogram.
