York-based family-owned potato supplier boosts deliveries to Aldi

A York-based family-owned potato supplier, R S Cockerill, is preparing for an anticipated busy winter season with Aldi, aiming to deliver an unprecedented quantity of potatoes to the retailer's outlets nationwide. Since initiating their partnership in 1990, R S Cockerill has become a key supplier for Aldi, Britain's fourth-largest supermarket, with over 87,000 tonnes of potatoes, including varieties such as Maris Pipers, Reds, and Salads, supplied in the last year. The company is set to distribute over 35 truckloads of potatoes on 21st December, marking a peak in their seasonal deliveries.

The collaboration between R S Cockerill and Aldi has evolved over three decades, broadening the range of potato products offered, including 500g packs of miniature potatoes, 4 pack bakers, and traditional varieties like King Edwards. This expansion has facilitated R S Cockerill's continuous investment in its operations and the adoption of regenerative farming practices, particularly at its Low Mowthorpe site in North Yorkshire, where it has increased its seed potato production.

Rufus Pilgrim, Managing Director at R S Cockerill, highlighted the growth and success attributed to the partnership with Aldi, emphasizing the company's supply chain expansion to four regions across the North of England and a core range of 10 products. Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, reaffirmed Aldi's commitment to British farming and the value of long-term supplier relationships.
