Paraguay begins onion exports to Argentina, expanding agricultural trade

A shipment of onions weighing 28,800 kilos from the Boquerón department in Paraguay was recently exported to Argentina. This event, marking the addition of onions to the list of fruits and vegetables Paraguay exports, took place last Friday (Oct 25) and was celebrated at the Boreal Dry Port near the Argentine border. Present at the ceremony were Dr. Carlos Giménez, Agriculture and Livestock Minister, Pastor Soria Melo, SENAVE President, alongside other government officials, the Paraguayan producer Gian Hiebert, and the Argentine importer.

The onions, totaling 1,600 bags of 18 kg each, were cultivated by Gian Hiebert in Picada 500, Mcal. Estigarribia, located in the Boquerón department. The accomplishment was highlighted by officials as a testament to the collaborative efforts between the producer, importer, and state institutions. Pastor Soria, SENAVE President, remarked on the significance of expanding Paraguay's agricultural produce beyond its borders, a long-held goal that is coming to fruition. He emphasized the country's commitment to enhancing production quality and mentioned the recent initiation of bell pepper exports.

Dr. Carlos Giménez pointed out the benefits of this exportation for easing domestic market pressures and the importance of securing international markets for Paraguay's year-round production and competitiveness. Producer Gian Hiebert expressed his gratitude for the technical support received and pride in this achievement, hoping it signifies the beginning of further successes for Paraguay's agricultural sector.
