The Kandahar Chamber of Commerce and Investment has engaged in dialogue with Chinese traders to explore the export potential of Kandahar's pomegranates to China, alongside efforts to broaden regional trade networks. The Chamber disclosed that 20,894 tons of the fruit have been exported to markets in Pakistan, India, and Kazakhstan thus far.
Abdul Baqi Bina, Deputy of the Kandahar Chamber of Commerce and Investment, remarked, "We are working on a strategy to increase pomegranate exports and have already exported 20,894 tons of pomegranates to Pakistan, India, and Kazakhstan. We have also engaged in discussions with Chinese counterparts who have expressed interest."
Local reports from Kandahar indicate a surge in pomegranate production, though international exports remain constrained. Abdul Wasi Hesayal, a local, noted the region's reputation for high-quality pomegranates but mentioned the limited export activity. Nematullah Nemat, another resident, highlighted the annual waste or undervalued sale of 800 to 1,000 tons of fresh fruit, advocating for increased local consumption of Afghan produce over imported fruits and enhanced export capabilities.
