Xavier Martin, Lagache Lomme

"Our mission is to help retailers communicate about virtuous produce"

The apple season is now in full swing, and Lagache Lomme, a wholesaler based on the Lomme wholesale market in Lille, has decided to highlight the French production from eco-responsible orchards. The aim is to raise awareness among its clients about the virtues of this approach. "Our clientele is based around greengrocers who work with top-of-the-range products. We cater for clients who are mostly looking for products with great taste and optimum freshness. The aesthetic aspect is important, but the taste and freshness of a product are key," explains Xavier Martin, the company's director.

Although greengrocers are the market professionals who know the most about fruit and vegetables, they tend to communicate very little about the various labels that testify to a producer's commitment to biodiversity, such as the eco-responsible label. "Supermarkets advertise a lot about labels such as HEV, Zero Pesticide Residue and Eco-responsible Orchards. Virtuous production is not promoted enough by wholesalers. That is why we have decided to help our clients communicate better about what makes these products exceptional."

This is the second year in a row that Lagache Lomme has given pride of place to French production from eco-responsible orchards. The Rubis Gold and the pear from the Alpes de Haute-Durance are among the highly tasty varieties selected by the wholesaler to embody the approach. "At Lagache Lomme, we are convinced that we work with products that not only taste good, but are also produced in a virtuous way. And I am convinced that one day, highlighting these approaches to consumers will be an essential part of the sales process. That is why we have chosen to be proactive, modern and innovative, and to give wholesalers the tools needed to communicate with their customers. Throughout the year, we regularly organize (culinary) events around a specific theme."
