The pecan processing firm Pecanita, located in Cachoeira do Sul, Brazil, is on the verge of becoming the first Brazilian enterprise permitted to export pecans to China. A crucial visit from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) representatives took place at Pecanita's facility last Friday for a final evaluation, setting the stage for the anticipated authorization to access the Chinese market.
In the course of the inspection, MAPA personnel scrutinized the company's processing methods for pecans, focusing on food safety, traceability, and adherence to global standards. Pecanita anticipates that the 2025 pecan harvest will mark the commencement of commercial exports to China, with an initial projection of exporting approximately 1,000 tons.
Eduardo Basso, president of the Brazilian Pecan Nut Institute (IBPecan), in a press briefing, acknowledged the development as a noteworthy milestone for the Brazilian pecan sector. He emphasized the vast potential of the Chinese market and its implications for national pecan producers, predicting enhanced opportunities and favorable pricing structures post-market entry.
