Concerns over corruption and mismanagement in Karachi fruit & vegetable market

The All Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers, and Merchants Association (PFVA) have voiced objections against the Karachi Fruit & Vegetable Market (Subzi Mandi) management, citing accusations of corruption and mismanagement. The PFVA has pointed out issues such as inadequate infrastructure, illegal occupancy, and traffic congestion, which negatively affect the market's reputation and, consequently, Pakistan's fruit and vegetable exports. Highlighted concerns include the illegal allocation of shops at reduced rates, leading to financial losses, and unaccounted collection of market and vehicle fees, suggesting financial mismanagement.

Allegations extend to the misuse of funds for personal gain, including the unlawful appointment of excessive legal advisors, further straining the market's finances. Despite its size, the market's growth is hindered by these practices, overshadowing trader interests. However, the PFVA has acknowledged ongoing investigations by NAB Karachi into the Market Committee's Chairman, expressing support for the inquiry and a desire for involvement to ensure a just resolution.
