The Government of the state of Michoacan and the Swedish Food Collective have developed a collaborative strategy to introduce Michoacan lemon to Sweden. The export agreement should be formalized in the first quarter of 2025, marking an important milestone for Michoacan's agricultural sector's expansion to Europe.
Michoacán is one of Mexico's leading agricultural exporting regions, especially to the United States, where it accounts for one out of every three dollars generated by Mexican agricultural products, reaching annual revenues of close to 7 billion dollars. Its main export products include avocado, berries, lemon, mango, and banana.
The entity promotes sustainable practices in agriculture, such as voluntary certification to combat deforestation caused by illegal crops to mitigate their environmental impact and favor the restoration of forest soil.
In turn, Food Collective specializes in the marketing of agricultural products in Sweden, a market with a significant demand for fresh products such as lemon, berries, and avocado. The collaboration between the Government of Michoacán and the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce also seeks to strengthen the development, certification, and export of these agricultural products.
Representatives of the Government of Michoacan and the Food Collective will hold working groups to finalize the details of this export agreement and the preparations necessary to start exporting Michoacan lemons to Sweden in 2025.
