Date supply out of the U.S. Bard Valley is strong this season as a result of ideal growing conditions. "A combination of strong supply and consistent exceptional quality gives retailers confidence to meet growing demand during Ramadan and beyond," says Bridgette Weber with Bard Valley Natural Delights. Ramadan marks the peak season for date consumption and the company is already witnessing demand picking up, especially from key international markets such as Australia, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Domestically, cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago typically lead the Ramadan sales surge. "This year, we're seeing larger Ramadan orders, a clear sign of growing consumer interest in Natural Delights Medjool dates for this season," says Shayna Telesmanic, sales director for export markets.
In 2025, Ramadan is expected to be celebrated between February 28 and March 29. Each year sees an earlier start due to the lunar calendar, shortening the gap between the fall harvest and peak demand. "This adds a new dynamic and emphasizes the importance of strategic planning," said Weber. "Retailers who stock up early for Ramadan and stay ahead of these shifts are well-positioned to capture incremental sales during this period."
Red window-lid boxes
While it is hard to isolate Ramadan-specific numbers, Bard Valley Natural Delights anticipates shipping five to seven million pounds of dates globally in the months leading up to the celebrations. Whole Medjool dates remain customers' top choice as they are traditionally used to break the fast. Larger-size packages are especially popular, providing enough dates for families to stock up and share throughout the holy month. Whole Medjool dates are available in signature red window-lid boxes that have become a Ramadan staple. "Shoppers love being able to see the premium quality of the dates before buying, especially when gifting them to loved ones," commented Weber. "These boxes add trust and elevate the Ramadan experience – perfect for Suhoor and Iftar tables."
Staple all year long
In general, year-round demand for dates is growing. While Ramadan creates a surge in demand, the share of dates consumed during Ramadan is gradually decreasing as consumption during other months is growing. Bard Valley Natural Delights is focusing on making dates a regular part of people's lives, whether as a natural energy source, a wholesome sweetener, or an easy snack. By highlighting their versatility and health benefits, as well as introducing new products like Mini Medjools, more consumers are brought into the category. "Currently Ramadan accounts for about 20 percent of our annual sales and while the holy month remains an important time of year, our goal is to make Medjool dates a staple all year long."
