Stephen McCormack - McCormack Family Farms

“You have keep trying new things, we are always looking for the next big thing"

After a couple of challenging years, 2024 has been 'steady' at McCormack Family Farms in County Meath, Ireland.

"We finished harvesting our outdoor crops three or four weeks ago," said Stephen McCormack, Managing Director. "We are very thankful that is has been a long season and we had a good run of weather in October and September when it was very mild. The season started late but we had a good back end, so we are very happy."

McCormack Family Farms also won Best Agri Family and Best Over All Family Business of the year awards for 2024 two weeks ago at the Business Awards.

Spinach, red chard and coriander are all finished for the season, there is still some curly parsley in the fields.

McCormacks has now moved to the European supply, "We are a bit concerned about the Spanish supply, Murcia was not badly affected by the heavy rain and flooding last month, but it has been a bit too warm there which brough crops forward and may mean that there is a gap in the supply down the line. Italy is just kicking off and the crops are looking good, it is still a bit too warm in Italy but I think it will be ok."

"Our own supply this year has been very consistent and steady, no big peaks which is good. We have harvested 1.3 million Kg, which is 300,000Kg more than last year. No two years are every the same so we are grateful for the good year and looking forward to next year when we will have some new products. We started growing watercress this year and it has been well received, we have supplied Dunns and next year we will also supply Tesco and Supervalue.

"You have keep trying new things, we are always looking for the next big thing!"
