Den Berk Délice opens first In-House greenhouse in Morocco

Den Berk Délice has opened its first in-house greenhouse in Agadir, Morocco. By taking full control of foreign cultivation, Den Berk Délice guarantees consistent quality and taste for its customers all year round.

The move to its own greenhouse in Morocco follows years of collaboration with local contract growers. "We had been working with Moroccan growers to cultivate our red cherry tomatoes, Pure Délice, and our cherry tomato mix, Party Délice. While this was successful, we wanted to gain better control over the cultivation process to manage quality and harvest timing more effectively," explained Sales & Marketing Manager Loes van der Velden during the autumn construction process.

By growing in its own greenhouse, Den Berk Délice can better predict production timelines from the moment of planting and provide customers with reliable volume expectations. "This offers significant added value for retailers seeking a consistent and stable product supply," Loes added.

The new greenhouse in Morocco, located in the Agadir region, was built following the mid-tech concept, featuring modern facilities such as a closed water system and ventilation options. Although Den Berk Délice chose a greenhouse type commonly used in Morocco, the company remains committed to maintaining its high standards. For example, they have invested in creating a supportive working environment for local staff, including modern facilities such as a high-tech canteen and comfortable changing rooms. "We want working conditions in Morocco to match those in Belgium," stressed Loes.

With the new greenhouse in Morocco, set to begin production in November 2024, Den Berk Délice's total cultivated area will exceed 100 hectares. It marks the company's tenth greenhouse and its first outside Belgium. In addition to tomatoes, Den Berk Délice has also expanded its product range to include seedless snack peppers and, in partnership with Coöperatie Hoogstraten, snack cucumbers.
