Peruvian garlic exports increased in November

In November 2024, Peru exported 4,563 tons of garlic for $13.4 million, 22% more volume and 76% more value than in November 2023. The garlic's average price increased by 44% to $2.94 per kilogram. Export volumes from January to October decreased but higher prices from October contributed to a positive annual balance.

The cumulative year closed with 11,746 tons exported, representing a 42% decrease in volume, but a 15% increase in value, reaching $32.2 million, exceeding the revenues of 2023. The decrease in plantings, delays in crop cycles, and adverse weather conditions negatively impacted the crop's development. However, higher global prices and production problems in other countries favored Peruvian garlic, allowing lower export volumes to be compensated by higher international prices.

Fresh garlic accounted for 99% of all exports in November, and the remaining 1% was made up of frozen and paste garlic. Mexico was the main destination with a 78% share, followed by the United States (17%), Australia (2%), and Ecuador (1%).
