Alain Alarcon, Banagrumes

"We are having a great clementine season!"

The clementine season is in full swing and Banagrumes, a company based at the Rungis market, is offering Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian origins, all three of which have lived up to the wholesaler's expectations this year. "We have clementines of very good quality. The fruits are tasty, juicy, sweet: simply top-notch in terms of taste." Then, we will have to switch to mandarins and other hybrids that are a little more robust and hold better on the shelves," explains Alain Alarcon, managing director of Banagrumes. "That is also when Brio Fruits, our long-standing supplier (my father and brother), will start producing our own Orri mandarins, so much appreciated by our clients."

The Brio brand will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year!

Regarding supplies, everything looks good. "There are no logistical worries. The strikes in Spain and France and the bad weather have not affected us. The transport of goods from the supplier countries is going very well." As far as consumption is concerned, after a relatively quiet October, the demand now seems to be more dynamic. "We had a slightly sluggish start to the campaign, but we now feel that we are getting into a good rhythm. Sales are picking up in the run-up to the festive season, and the cold and dry weather is conducive to the consumption of clementines and oranges. We have all the right conditions for good sales, and we can feel that clients are asking for these products. As far as prices are concerned, suppliers are firmer, which is proof that the market is once again doing rather well."
