On December 13th, the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA) convened at the Market for a significant assembly. Wanda Goldwag OBE and Jo Breare of the Covent Garden Market Authority (CGMA) hosted the event, engaging with market landlords and managers from across the UK, including Birmingham, Bradford, Derby, Glasgow, London, and Manchester. The session focused on updates regarding the New Covent Garden Market (NCGM) redevelopment and facilitated a roundtable discussion to exchange insights on the successes and hurdles encountered within the nation's market sector.
Attendees were offered a tour of the Market, showcasing the advancements in the redevelopment effort. Goldwag articulated the strategic objectives for NCGM in the forthcoming years, emphasizing the potential fortification of the UK's wholesale markets through collaborative efforts to underscore their economic and societal contributions. The assembly also provided an opportunity to highlight the outcomes associated with the Market's 50th-anniversary initiatives.
NABMA's wholesale division, which organizes meetings at various markets throughout the UK multiple times a year, had not visited NCGM in several years. This meeting was notably timed with NCGM being recognized as the Wholesale Market of the Year, an achievement prominently celebrated on-site. David Preston, NABMA's Chief Executive, expressed gratitude towards CGMA for their hospitality and the insightful update, praising the vision, innovation, and quality of the redevelopment project and expressing eagerness for future visits.
