Vietnam set to begin fresh passion fruit exports to the US in 2025

Vietnam is on the brink of commencing official exports of fresh passion fruit to the US, with the Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development nearing the finalization of plant quarantine measures. The technical negotiations concluded in August, and the process is now moving towards completing the necessary legal frameworks for export. The Vietnam Association of Vegetables and Fruit anticipates that this new export venture could generate annual revenues between 50-100 million USD for the country.

Currently, Vietnam has successfully established official export channels to the US for eight types of fresh fruit, including dragon fruit, mango, longan, lychee, rambutan, star apple, grapefruit, and coconut. This development follows the successful negotiation for fresh passion fruit exports to Australia on August 8, marking the fifth Vietnamese fruit to enter the Australian market officially.

With 9,500ha dedicated to passion fruit cultivation, primarily in the Central Highlands, Vietnam positions itself as a significant producer. Passion fruit stands among 18 types of fruit in the country yielding over 100,000 tons annually.
