Rene Bouman, FMI:

"Ample supply of limes expected in the coming period"

"After a surprisingly stable last quarter of 2024, the lime market is currently quiet, which is typical for this time of year. However, a significant number of limes have been shipped from Brazil in recent weeks, and this will become evident in the market starting next week. There has been a lot of rain in Brazil recently, and the expectation is that sufficient limes will be available in the coming period," says René Bouman of FMI.

With over a decade of experience in the lime market, FMI has become one of the largest lime importers in Europe. The primary focus of lime production is in Brazil, supported by other Latin American countries such as Peru and Colombia. FMI has its own team of agronomists in South America to ensure production is managed as effectively as possible.

"We look back on the past year with satisfaction. Lime is gradually gaining more recognition, which benefits consumption. The biggest challenge remains traceability and producing limes that comply with European regulations regarding maximum residue levels (MRL)," says René.
