Peruvian fruit exports surpassed $6 billion in 2024

Peruvian fruit exports surpassed the 6 billion dollar mark in 2024, according to Desilú León Chempén, head of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur). Blueberries led shipments with more than $2 billion, followed by avocados with more than $1.3 billion. León Chempén highlighted the growth and acceptance of avocados in various international markets, pointing out the potential for expansion to new destinations.

Grape exports to Asian markets, especially Japan and China, have increased benefiting from existing free trade agreements and improvements in trade agreements. In addition, the country is expected to achieve new treaties with Indonesia and India. Peruvian cocoa also had an outstanding performance in 2024, with exports close to $1 billion, mainly to Asian and European markets.

The Minister highlighted the importance of the quality certifications Peruvian products have achieved complying with demanding phytosanitary requirements to enter markets such as the European Union and Asia, which showcase the high quality of the country's exportable supply. The inauguration of Chancay's mega port represents a significant advantage for the sector as it reduces shipping times to Asia by approximately 14 days, which translates into considerable savings in the transport of fresh produce.
