Peru's fruit exports surged in 2024, driven by blueberries and avocados

Peru concluded 2024 with record exports, resulting in a trade surplus of 2.2% of GDP and an increase in foreign exchange reserves by USD 12.177 million, reaching USD 83.210 million. Exports from January to November 2024 totaled USD 67.558 million, with mining and agriculture contributing 87% to this growth. Fresh blueberries and avocados were among the top export products, with China, the United States, and the EU as major destinations.

Agricultural exports saw a 23% year-on-year increase, totaling USD 11.330 billion, which accounted for 16.5% of total exports. Fresh blueberry exports reached USD 2.000 billion (+46.3%), while avocado exports were a key contributor. The United States was the largest buyer of fresh blueberries, while the EU led in avocado purchases.

Factors driving this growth include over twenty free trade agreements and participation in international fairs like Fruit Logistica and Biofach. The "gastronomic commercial strategy" leverages the global popularity of Peruvian cuisine to open new markets. In Spain, cooperation with restaurants involves over 230 establishments working directly with Peruvian producers. Tailored product specifications and optimized transit times ensure freshness, while export promoters facilitate direct market access by linking with European importers.
