Perth Markets completes new cold chain warehouse to support WA fresh produce logistics

Perth Markets Group Limited (PMGL) has completed its latest multi-tenant cold chain warehouse, known as S2, at its 51-hectare Canning Vale site. Finalized in late December 2024, the facility is designed to enhance Western Australia's fresh produce logistics and distribution network.

The S2 warehouse spans over 3,500 square meters and features two-story internal offices, 9.1-meter-high cool rooms with motion sensor rapid doors, and recessed rear loading docks equipped with dock levelers, restraints, and shelters. The site allows for full drive-around road circulation, improving efficiency in the movement of goods into the retail and fresh produce supply chain.

Scott Gibson, PMGL's chief executive officer, highlighted the necessity of ongoing infrastructure development to meet the demands of the fresh produce sector. He emphasized the role of such facilities in maintaining an efficient supply chain. Chief Property Officer Shaun Atkins noted that purpose-built warehouses allow tenants to consolidate operations, improve efficiency, and support long-term growth.

The completion of the S2 warehouse is part of a broader investment strategy aimed at supporting Western Australia's growers, wholesalers, and retailers. PMGL manages one of Perth's largest industrial precincts, which includes WA's only wholesale fresh food central trading market, as well as retail and commercial spaces such as Market City and the Canning Vale Weekend Markets. More than 250,000 tonnes of fresh produce were traded through Perth Markets in the 2024 financial year, reinforcing its role in WA's horticultural industry and economy.
