Artist tapes bananas around Sonning in parody of $6.2M 'Comedian' artwork

In a display reminiscent of Maurizio Cattelan's 'Comedian,' bananas have been taped around Sonning, Berkshire. This imitation follows the sale of the original artwork for $6.2 million at a New York auction. The initiative is attributed to artist Impro, known for using Sonning as a canvas for his projects. Impro stated that the proceeds from his "masterpiece" bananas could fund a "new church roof" for the village.

The original 'Comedian' was acquired by Justin Sun, a Chinese cryptocurrency entrepreneur, in November. Sun later consumed the artwork, adding to its notoriety. Impro, residing in Oxfordshire, remarked, "Enough of the japes and pranks! This time I have graced Sonning with bona fide, international standard fine art worth in total £24.8m at auction." He added that the sale of a single piece could cover the church roof expenses, addressing the residents with "You're welcome!"

Impro's previous installations in Sonning include a phone, postbox, and door affixed to Sonning Bridge. His work gained international attention when Uri Geller, noted for spoon-bending, commented, "I have never seen anything like this anywhere in the world. It's a new one on me." In 2014, Impro also placed a large red Google Maps pin on the A4155 Reading to Henley road.
