This shift in tomato cultivation is driven not by a desire for novelty but by economic efficiency

Premium tomatoes from vertical farms to appear in Ukraine

The Lviv-based company Green Wave plans to launch a vertical farm project to grow rare commercial tomato varieties, including "Black Prince," cherry tomatoes, cocktail tomatoes, and "Bottle" tomatoes. These premium tomatoes will be sold both individually and in mixed packs.

This was reported in an article for the magazine Horticulture in Ukrainian Style by Volodymyr Novyi, co-owner of Green Wave.

"We are introducing tomatoes to vertical farming not for hype, like claiming they grow on trees, but to reduce energy consumption while improving quality," explains Volodymyr Novyi. "Our transition from a classic vertical farm structure to a pyramidal one is not about exotic shapes, but rather a rational design that physically ensures efficiency. The difference in energy costs between these two methods is 30%."

According to Novyi, Green Wave tomatoes will be in demand regardless of competitors due to their superior taste, ecological purity, and consistent availability without logistical disruptions.

"This means we can confidently enter the market without price dumping, maintaining a well-balanced and fair price," says the Green Wave co-owner.
