Speranza expands its range of horticultural products and improves turnover

Big retail chains focus on health as new sales segment

There is growing interest in healthy food and intensive greenhouse horticulture cannot miss such an important opportunity. There is a way of doing things right even when it comes to integrated pest management agriculture, using cultivation systems that focus not only on environmental and economic sustainability but also on the health of end consumers. It is the supply chain that is asking for it, so that the produce on the counters can be diversified not only in terms of variety and aesthetic quality but also in terms of overall organoleptic characteristics, putting health properties at the top of the list.

Alessandro Speranza

Nickel-tested and hormone-free
For years, the Speranza company - based in Vittoria (RG) - has been engaged in the research and development of agronomic techniques aimed not only at mitigating the use of plant protection products but also at investing in Nickel-Tested production and much more. Alessandro Speranza himself explains the leap made by his company in recent times.

"In recent months, we have fine-tuned the project that allows us to produce and market Nickel-Tested aubergines. It is a huge step forward to protect that portion of the population that suffers from allergies to this heavy metal. Now we are also about to conclude the project on Hormone-Free aubergines, which will allow us to achieve a higher-value positioning on the counters of the big retail chains. Together with our strict production and packaging standards - which are highly appreciated by qualified retail operators - this way of doing things has enabled us to increase company turnover by a further 10%."

"Thanks to these new achievements, our partners have asked us to expand our range of products which includes round, purple, and oblong aubergines in 1 kg nets; green, yellow, and red Lamuyo peppers, also in 1 kg nets; and dark green courgettes in 1 kg nets. The range will now welcome new items in various packaging solutions."

List of new products:
- Aubergines (round, purple, and oblong) in 1 kg nets
- Lamuyo mixed peppers (green, yellow, and red) in 1 kg nets
- Dark green courgette in 1 kg nets
- Streaked aubergines

"We are already working on new supplies for both domestic and foreign big retail chains with the most important fruit and vegetable platforms in Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Switzerland."
