An association of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Antique received a $7,140 grant to bolster its mushroom production initiative. The Federation of OFW Family Circle Sibalom, Inc., led by President Janet Fadullan, aims to address the local market's mushroom supply gap. The project involves 42 village associations, primarily composed of women, focusing on producing chicharon or crispy mushrooms as a livelihood source.
Fadullan stated, "We are embarking on the mushroom industry because of the lack of supply in the local markets and the malls." The income generated will be shared among the members. The funds, awarded through the Legarda Micro Small and Medium Excellence Award, will be allocated for purchasing necessary equipment such as shredding, incubator, bagging, and inoculator machines.
The grant was officially handed over during a ceremony at the University of Antique's main campus. The event was attended by Antique Rep. Antonio Agapito Legarda and Noli Valezuela, team leader of the Department of Social Welfare and Development - Sustainable Livelihood Program in Antique. Legarda emphasized the importance of empowering women and promoting gender equality, stating, "With the 2025 National Women's Month Celebration, we reaffirm our collective vision to empower women, promote gender equality, and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities."
