On March 10, the Peru Blueberry Technical Tour 2025, organized by Blueberries Consulting, took place. Attendees, including professionals from Spain, Poland, Latvia, Portugal, France, the United States, Chile, Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador, visited 600 hectares of blueberry crops at Family Farms Peru in Pisco, Ica.
The tour was led by Jorge Esquivel Manterola, director of Blueberries Consulting and international blueberry consultant. John Paul Bentin, Production Manager at Family Farms Peru, explained the blueberry production process in Pisco, emphasizing its unique geographical and climatic conditions.
Dr. María del Carmen Salas, Dr. Bruno Defilippi, Dr. Claudia Moggia, and Dr. Gustavo Lobos were among the participating experts. Dr. Lobos remarked, "Everything was great, lots of technology and professionalism, the course is beautiful and very well maintained. I am happy to have visited it."
Discussing Peru's blueberry cultivation, a University of Talca researcher stated, "It is different from how it is managed in Chile, here the production period is longer and that makes it different and interesting to visit. Peru had the great advantage of starting to use new cultivars some time ago, something that Chile did not do at the time, and that allowed, together with a climate with a certain marine influence, to make production here, together with the cultivars, a more efficient production and with better post-harvest production and that makes Peru grow year after year."
The technical tour concluded with discussions on future business links. The next event, the XXXIV International Seminar on Blueberries Lima-Peru 2025, is scheduled for March 12-13 at the Lima Convention Center.
