Last week, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) executed a drug bust at a McAllen, Texas warehouse, seizing meth valued at nearly $5 million. The operation intercepted 1,500 pounds of crystal meth concealed within blueberry cases, originating from southern Mexico and destined for U.S. distribution, particularly Atlanta and other southeastern cities.
The DEA has not confirmed the cartel responsible, citing ongoing investigations, though the operation bears characteristics of the Gulf Cartel, known for controlling smuggling routes into South Texas. No arrests or charges have been disclosed as of now.
DEA reports indicate that drug labs in Mexico are producing meth at unprecedented levels, with cartels exploiting U.S. demand. According to Daniel Comeaux, Special Agent in Charge of the Houston DEA, "A drug cartel is sitting back right now understanding and knowing that they lost money. We're really protecting the entire United States because these drugs often spiderweb out into various states. And when we can take 1,500 pounds of methamphetamine off the street, I know for a fact that we save lives."
