Kyrgyzstan increased its banana imports in January 2025, according to data from the National Statistical Committee. The country imported 3,231 tons of bananas worth $2.38 million, compared to 2,677 tons worth $1.74 million in January 2024.
The majority of the bananas came from Ecuador, Kyrgyzstan's main supplier. In January 2025, Kyrgyzstan purchased 2,967 tons of Ecuadorian bananas for $2.14 million, a 30% increase in volume and a 58.5% rise in value compared to January 2024, when 2,279 tons were imported for $1.35 million. The average price of Ecuadorian bananas in Kyrgyzstan was $721 per ton.
Other suppliers include:
- Russia: 136 tons worth $0.15 million in 2025, down from 271 tons worth $0.33 million in 2024 reflecting a 50% decrease in volume.
- Imports from China remained stable, with 128 tons purchased for $96,000 in 2025, compared to 127 tons for $63,000 in 2024. This suggests that the price of bananas from China has increased significantly, rising from approximately $496 per ton in 2024 to $750 per ton in 2025.
